WordPress Woes

Just a quick not to let visitors know that I plan on returning to regular posting within a few days.

Last week, I took the plunge into the WordPress 2.6 upgrade… as some visitors may have already figured out, the upgrade did not go well, as the blog was down between the 29th & 31st of July.

I got double whammied; my SQL database files & the WordPress XML files were only partially of use in recover efforts.  whammy-20080805 It appears that a few posts and comments were lost from the days leading up to the outage, so I’m spending the next few evenings inputting comments that we’re recoverable but that did not import back into WordpPress correctly.

Anywho, I should be back to posting regularly this Wednesday or Thursday.

Until then…

Grace and peace be with you.

Our apologies here at Got Fruit(?) to any visitors having difficulty connecting between approximately 12:00 & 12:50 (CST).

There was a technical issue with the database, the blog should be operational now.

Explanation of Technical Difficulties

Folks, once again we offer our apologies to visitors that experienced connectivity issues this afternoon.

Tech support has investigated the issue which was two-fold and provided the following information:

  1. The database became corrupted and required repair.
  2. In addition due to slight cultural differences, there were communication issues between the various layers of Tech Support here at Got Fruit(?)

The software guys that monitor the database pinpointed the problem, which they relayed to the hardware guys to actually implement action. Per instructions by the software geniuses: “In the event of database corruption, find the “REPAIR DATABASE” button on the control panel and “mash” it.”

The hardware guys being foreigners, most hailing from California, Oregon & Washington, are not up to speed on the nuances of “Okie-speak”. They didn’t understand that “mashing” has nothing to do with potatoes, but rather is an Okie term for “push”,”depress”,” engage” or “click”. This disconnect in dialect is the reason for the prolonged down-time. We hope to have this issue resolved within the coming weeks as we are expecting interpreters from the country of Texas. :)

Until then “Y’all come back and see us and…”

Grace and peace be with you

The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

Most of the past week has been spent revamping the look of the blog.  Why…  because I’m obsessive compulsive I suppose, at the expense of having a "normal" routine; which means going to sleep sometime before the sun rises.

Things were going well with the revamp, until my fat fingers managed to get in the way, thereby hosing the WordPress install.  Good thing I backed up recently.crack_mechanic_20080331_001

There was another blog theme that I originally opted to go with last week.  I received a few positive comments on it, and would have liked to have used it, however there were some widgets that didn’t function as I anticipated out of the box (after WP2.5 install); getting them to function became too convoluted of an effort for me.

Another negative, was the amount functionality geared toward advertisement.  Just not part of the plan to have advertisements blanket the blog, so that had to go.

Another hiccup this weekend, came by way of opting for the WordPress 2.5 upgrade.  I read the instructions, (something we guys don’t normally do) and still had issues.  I think that’s where the trouble began.  Hey, that’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it anyway.  End result, I couldn’t log on to my WP Dashboard, database was fouled up etc.  Did I say "Thank God for Back Ups?".

The next week will be spent re-mapping image links to their respective posts, specifically older posts prior to mid February.  Top commenter stats are now displaying properly, with Pistol Pete being the "Top Dog".  The "official" count on the race to the 100th commenter is sitting at 79.

With all of that said, Got Fruit has a new theme with a cleaner and leaner feel and is back up and running… of course you would know this already if you happen to be reading this right now wouldn’t you?

Grace and peace be with you.
