Phil Johnson on piety & politics

A few days ago I happened across an article at Grace to You Ministries by Phil Johnson of Pyromaniacs fame that spells out the shortcomings of evangelicals mingling in the political process.

If our energies are so focused on defending our liberties that we neglect to make the gospel clear, we’ll lose our liberty anyway, along with the influence of the gospel. That is precisely what has been happening in America in the past half-century. It’s time the church woke up to that fact.

As I understand what Johnson is saying in the article, Johnson is not explicitly making an argument for Christians to not be involved in politics, but rather a petition to tread lightly in this arena.  Johnson gives warning to evangelicals to be mindful to not dilute the Gospel by compromising the message in the pursuit to bring about (legislate) morality through political wrangling.

I hope you all find this article an enjoyable and educational read.

Grace and peace be with you.
