Hidden in plain view

I’ve been reading Matthew for the past few days and a thought popped into the ”ole noggin as I was into chapter 11, more like a follow-up thought to Bible on the brain.  Jesus is denouncing the cities in which most of His miracles had been performed in Matthew 20-24, telling the people that if the miracles performed amongst them had been performed in Sodom, it (Sodom) would still be standing. Jesus then addresses the weary:

Matthew 11:25-27
25At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. 26Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure.
27″All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

Now the Pharisees were already bent out of shape and plotting in their hearts against Jesus, accusing him of being of the devil.  The “Hmmm, that’s interesting!” is from this snippet in Matthew 11:25: “because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.”  I think that Jesus (The Word) was referencing the Pharisees and Jews that rejected Him for who He claimed to be as an obvious, but I found it an interesting thought also that with the Bible (God’s Word), people can reject it’s truths which are often plainly seen.  I guess I should count myself blessed as not being “wise and learned”.

The Lord makes it so easy for us all to receive Him though, if we’re willing to.  Not by proof or evidence, which the religious leaders of the time experienced, and by which people today demand,yet still reject Christ.  So in an ironic sort of way God uses something so simple, “a silly little book” to show Himself.

John 3:16
16″For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

The unfortunate reality for so many:

Acts 28:26-27
26″ ”Go to this people and say,
   “You will be ever hearing but never understanding;
      you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.”
27For this people’s heart has become calloused;
      they hardly hear with their ears,
      and they have closed their eyes.
   Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
      hear with their ears,
      understand with their hearts
   and turn, and I would heal them.”

Grace and peace be with you.
