Das Boot!
This past Thursday (8 Nov. 07), I had another appointment with my Orthopedic surgeon.Recovery is going along smoothly,so I was put into a boot; which the nurse that fitted me; referred to as “The Darth Vader Boot”. The first day of walking with my Vader Boot was a bit awkward. It took a while to get my balance and to just get a comfortable gait established, but I’m doing better, though the going is actually a bit slower vs when I had the cast and crutches. I didn’t lose the crutches as I assumed I would, which is OK.
So… I’m still lugging the crutches around, which are more for balance than actual mobility; which means a lot less stress on my hands, arms, shoulders, and my back; from bearing the weight of my Spartan-esque physique. I did try on a few occasions to walk without the aid of the crutches, which was rocky.
Physical therapy should begin after Thanksgiving… a little over two more weeks from now; which is amazing when I think back to when the injury occurred. It was only 37 days prior to getting fitted for the walking brace (Das Boot!) that I ruptured my Achilles tendon. The surgery was 29 days ago. So I consider myself very blessed to be at this point in my recovery, as there were no complications, infections or other setbacks throughout the initial healing process.
I do thank thank God for just being where I am in the healing process as well as for my surgeon, and for the surgery being successful on the first shot!

Glad to hear the healing process is moving forward. Praise God!

Praise God, yes indeed! The bonus: a cold weather induced limp that the chicks just dig.
